What made you choose pharmacy as your degree? | My junior year of high school I had a close family member experience a medication event. When it happened, we called our local pharmacist and she made a house call to help. I realized the impact a pharmacist can have on the daily lives of their patients. |
What is the most interesting job you’ve had and why? | I am part of the CE Speakers Bureau for CardinalHealth. I love traveling to various conferences and educating other professionals. I really enjoy the teaching aspect of the job. |
What do you like most about being a pharmacist? | Even though I don’t currently get to see the patients, I know that I am helping answer their big questions. How bad is this cancer? Are my kidneys functioning? Is my heart ok? Nuclear pharmacy and imaging helps the physician reach the diagnosis and provides patients with answers. |
Who is your favorite and/or most memorable pharmacy teacher, and why? | Most memorable is Dr Elgenia French. I will never forget her trying to have class by candle light in the annex when we lost heat/power during the “Great Ice Storm of ’01.” |
What is your best memory of your time at SWOSU? | That’s too hard- I have so many great memories |
What is your funniest memory of your time at SWOSU? | The KE-Faculty Basketball game. Christa Gerber and Rona Furrh made “Down with Deimling” Signs, Beat the Geezers Banners and whipped our cheerleading team into shape. Pretty sure we lost the game but it wasn’t for lack of spirit. |
Where was your favorite place to study or hangout during pharmacy school? | Crowder Lake or the pharmacy lounge. To be honest, I didn’t get much studying done in the lounge though. |
What is one thing you know now you wish you knew in pharmacy school? | After you graduate no one looks at your transcript. |
What are your current hobbies/travels/activities? | I’m currently planning a Medical Mission trip to Romania in July and hopefully a family trip to Germany/Switzerland in the fall. Spending time with family– our daughter Abigail is 2 and is at a really fun stage right now! |
What is your proudest accomplishment since leaving SWOSU? | Starting the charitable pharmacy “The Clinic at The Hill” with my church (Quail Springs Baptist Church). We offer free medical & pharmacy services to indigent patients. All services are available in both English and Spanish. |
What advice would you give a current pharmacy student? | Treat each rotation like it is a job interview. |
